¶ description of chip |
picture of chip |
I. The following three codes are the only ones that have no engraved ring around the horseshoe.
IA. SSM-HST -- sorry, no
dupes for sale.
¶ this is the only code in this no-engraved-ring group that has four nail holes on the right side (the others have three nail holes). It is also the only one in the group that has oddly (non-rectangular) shaped tips (circled in the picture here). (This was code HST in supplement #3 to the old book. It is SSM in the new book.) |
|
IB. SSH-HSU -- sorry,
none for sale.
¶ this code is distinguished by the irregular, non-smooth outline of the top of the horseshoe. (This was code HSU in supplement #4 to the old book. It is SSH in the new book.) |
|
IC. SSH -- sorry, none
for sale.
¶ Thius chip does not have the irregular tip of SSM-HST, nor the irregular top of SSH-HSU. (The code did not appear in the old book; it is SSH Variation in the new book. I didn't have an example of this chip till recently when Fred Krick gave me one as a gift.) |
|
II. All of the remaining codes have a ring around the horseshoe:
IIA. SJW-HSS -- sorry,
none for sale.
¶ this is a rare, small 1-1/4" chip. The other 14 Horseshoe chips are all 1-1/2." (HSS is the code in the old book. SJW is the code in the new book.) |
|
IIB. SUW-HSV -- red (made
with no paint), white -- $3 each.
¶ only this one of these Horseshoe chips has printing on it. (HSV was the code in the old book. SUW is the code in the new book.) |
|
IIC. The following three codes (and SUW-HSV and SSM-HST, above) have four nail holes in the right half of the horseshoe:
IIC1. STA-HSW
-- sorry, none for sale.
¶ a distinguishing feature of this code in this group (IIC) are the jogs at the tips of the horseshoe (not the usual small rectangle). (This chip was code HSW of supplement #4 to the old book; it is code STA in the new book.) |
|
IIC2. SSQ
-- sorry, none for sale.
¶ the tips are chevron-shaped, not the usual rectangle. (this was not in the old book or its supplements; SSQ is the code in the new book.) |
|
IIC3. SUK
-- sorry, none for sale.
¶ here the tips are the usual neat rectangles. Also, the left half of the rectangle has three nail holes, whereas the above two codes have four holes. (Not in the old book; code SUK in the new book.) |
|
IID. All of the remaining codes have three nail slots in the right half of the horseshoe:
IID1.The following two codes have jogs on the tips (ends) of the horseshoe:
IID1a. SUR-HSM -- sorry, none for sale.
¶ the nail slots are rectangular. (This was code HSM of the old book, and SUR Variation in the new book.) |
|
IID1b. SUR-HSL -- white, brown -- $3 each.
¶ there are lines for nail slots, not rectangles. (In the old book this was HSL in supplement #1; in the new book it is SUR.) |
|
IID2. The remainingcodes do not have jogs at the ends of the shoe:
IID2a. The following two codes have rectangular or oval nail slots:
IID2a(1). SUB-HSG -- white -- $3 each.
¶ compared to the code below, this one has fuzzy slots and harsher, thicker engravings throughout. ((This code was HSG in the old book and is omitted in the new book.) |
|
IID2a(2). SUB-HSJ -- white -- $4 each.
¶ compared to the code above, this one has finer, crisper engravings throughout. (This was code HSJ of the old book and SUB Variation in the new book.) |
|
IID2b. The remaining codes have LINES for nail slots, not rerctangles or ovals:
IID2b(1). SUB-HSA -- blue, white -- $3 each
¶ thick, broad, deep engravings vis a' vis the two codes below. (This code was HSA in the old book and SUB in the new.) |
|
IID2B(2). SUB-HSD -- red, white and blue -- $3 each.
¶ fine engravings vis a' vis SUB-HSA above; and larger horseshoe than SSV below. (This code was HSD in the old book, and is not in the new book.) |
|
IID2B(3). SSV -- sorry, none for sale.
¶ this chip is new to me. The horseshoe is much smaller than the above two codes. (Not in the old book, and coded SSV in the new one. |
