ROBERT EISENSTADT'S
EMBOSSED RIM MOLD DESIGN PROJECT
(Anytime a chip is described or identified,
one of the half dozen or so parameters given is the chip's particular rim
mold design. Thus, the rim mold design is an important part of the
name of a chip. As explained below, it is also, at times, a clue
to a chip's age and geographical use. The 10 pages liked together
here is an edited version of the one at Robert Eisenstadt's (R 159) web
site. If you have corrections, additions
or comments, please e-mail Robert at (removed email address))

Note: when researching a chip with an embossed rim mold design, examine (click) the uppermost applicable category from the list below. In another words, starting with category #1 (DICE.....), read each category title and stop when you reach one that includes something in the rim mold design of your chip. For example, if the embossed rim mold has both dice and words, click the "dice" link (#1), not the "letters or words" link (#2). Another example: if you have an Elephant Head and Crown mold chip, click link #6 (PLANTS/ANIMALS, for the elephant head), not #7 (MANMADE OBJECTS, for the crown)...........You can also locate a particular mold design directly (if you know its name) by going to the A to Z list and links below............For general information about rim mold designs, the methodology and sources I used for this project, the scope of this project (which entails mainly embossed [recessed/incused] rim molds, not the flat inlaid and printed rim molds) and references for additional information on the subject, click here.

(Note: (1) to make this list user-friendly for
the novice, I have listed certain molds two ways below. For examples,
I listed the "Hat & Cane" mold also as "Cane & Hat," and I listed
the "Rectangles and Hearts" mold also as "Hearts and Rectangles;" and (2)
beware that what looks to me (and most people) as rectangles have been
sometimes customarily called "squares." I have followed suit here.
For example, the mold of the Jones Bros. Co. is called "Large Squares"
even though the squares look like rectangles. I, too, list the mold
here as "Large Squares.")
